400,000 Wii units sold in the United States; More to come in the holiday season

The £299 gaming console was released in the United Kingdom on November 30, & sports a touch screen remote control & full High Definition graphics. Nintendo retailed more than 700,000 units in the previous week. If we try to classify, the Japanese manufacturer sold 400,000 of the Wii U units & the remaining 300,000 units belong to the six year old Wii.

The total US hardware sales have gone beyond 1.2million units, counting the Wii U, Wii, & handheld 3Ds & DS devices. Even though similar numbers are not yet available for the United Kingdom, Chart Track statistics state that 60 percent of release sales were of the Wii U Premium 32GB Nintendo Land pack, 30 percent for the Wii U Premium ZombiU package, & merely 10 percent of the Wii U Basic 8GB.

Games industry news site MCV guess that Nintendo retailed 40,000 Wii U devices in the last weekend. The Wii U released with twenty four gaming titles to pick from, counting Nintendo Land & the New Super Mario Bros. The launching of the Wii in 2006 was escorted by only fourteen new games.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata is claiming that the Wii U retransforms the arrangement of home entertainment by essentially altering how the television, the gaming console & the web functionality interact together.

This thingy is very important for Nintendo’s future. Last two years have been very difficult for the gaming giant. We hope that they get things under control with this gaming console, as we would hate to see them going down.
